Representation of characters
Representations
Write a paragraph on each of these
areas
•Teenagers
Teenagers
are represented as the main roles that are presented in this series. They make
up the main characters of the series and are a very important role in the show.
The teens are represented as naughty due to the fact they go against what the
adults say for example Steve climbing through the window and the boys going out
when told not to.
•Family
life and relationships
The
family life with most of the boys are represented like normal family’s with bickering
and arguments shown at the dinner table scene. There is then wills family
(Joyce and Johnathan) which differs from the rest because they are
overprotective most likely because his dad isn’t around.
•Mothers
Mothers
are shown as caring and loving throughout this episode mainly Joyce when she is
worried about will. She is represented as crazy when giving her opinions to
people. This is showing the 1980’s view on women, men are more superior, and
women’s opinions are invalid.
•Absent
fathers
Wills father is represented as a bad guy because he
hasn’t been around to look after will and left it all to Joyce. This is shown
in the scene where she tries to call him, and a woman picks up and then hangs
up when realising its Joyce. The pressure of single parenting is shown when
Joyce is panicking and scared for will and has no one to talk to but Johnathan.
•Police
The
police are represented as not very useful in the start when they are not taking
it very seriously but when they realise it is serious, they do a good job at
helping. The get a search party together and search the woods, this is showing
that Hopper is interested in the case and is willing to help the single parent
Joyce.
