Why have print newspapers declined?
The first reason why newspapers have slowed down on printing
newspapers is because of them all moving online, for example the Daily Mail has
moved on and made a website online and is getting more views then the print
version. This is because of the technological advancements, tablets and new
phones come out every year and along with them come bigger expectations,
newspapers can’t be improved because it’s just paper and ink at the end of the
day, there is no way you can improve it. People like making life easier, going
out to the shop and buying a paper every day is a big task for people in this
era, so newspapers have moved along and made the lives of their audiences
easier. Now news is a couple clicks away and this brings millions of people to
the sites just because they can’t be bothered to take a quick walk to the
shops.
Another reason why print sales are declining is because
papers are moving to social media. The newspapers are making social media
accounts on sites like Instagram and Twitter and are racking up millions of
followers who look on their pages daily to read the news that the editors
publish. This is another way the papers have made lives of the audiences easier
and taken away that tiresome and long walk to the shops and made it so the
papers are a few clicks away. Moving to social media was a clever move by the
paper industry, they obviously saw that the world was moving online around 2011
and then started to create accounts on social media like twitter. The move
online was a popular one because at this point in time the Daily Mail online
twitter account has 2.29 million proving that papers moving online is more
popular then print papers because the print circulation is 1.5 million.
Another reason why print is dying out is because of smart technology
like the Amazon Echo (Alexa) devices such as this is taking over the print
industry because they offer a service where you can say tell me the news to it
and it will give you a full rundown of the news, you can also set some devices
such as amazon echo up to automatically tell you the news as soon as the alarm goes
off. This is yet again another instance of the technological advancements
taking papers over.
The last reason the print industry has started to die out is
the amount off is the television news channels. There are mass amounts of news
channels on the tv and people can choose to watch these at any time of day.
Leaving the channels open nearly all day would attract mass amounts of people because
people may not have time to go to the shops and buy the newspapers, so they
will wait until they get home and watch the tv news.
Print Newspapers are generally dying out due to the fact
that people are getting more and more lazy each year and now days people can’t
be bothered to go to the shop and buy a newspaper when they can just go on their
smart device and look at it for free.
